A Story My Grandpa Told

A young man working at a gas station on the edge of town was talking to a newcomer.

"What are the people in this place like?" the newcomer asked.

"Well," the young man drawled, "what were they like where ya'll came from?"

"Oh they were terrible," the newcomer complained, "they would sell you out for the slightest advantage.  They gossipped, they backbit, they were liars and cheaters.  I hated that place and was glad to move away."

"I 'spect you'll find people here to be much the same." the young man said sadly.

Later that day another newcomer to town dropped by.

"What are the people in this town like?" he asked.

"Well," the young man drawled again, "what were they like where ya'll came from."

Oh, they were the nicest people on earth," the man enthused. "They would do anything for you.  They welcomed you into their homes. I honestly hated to leave."

"Well," the young man said, "I am happy to say, you'll find people here are much the same."

BTW check out DonDukDun (blues brothers fan?) for his similar, real life take on this.

lol..transgenics is VERY different than selective breeding. Often, these plants will have genes of plants which aren't even related to them. A few of them have animal genes in them. These kinds of plants..would never come into existance naturally, by pollination.

And of course the taste great..that's how they were created to taste. Heh.

Our current government worked fairly well for years..so the system itself isn't flawed..well it's BECOME flawed, but it wasn't originally. With some new measures put in place in the future, the same system can be used instead of replaced.

Which I would love. But you know, we'll have to see what happens.

It's just a curious subject. Like..if we could find the right book or movie, we could know the ending to this story. I'm not about to go a search'n mind, it's just interesting to think about.

And no. Fate only exists if humanity lets it exist. We still have the choice. Which is something of a paradox..but there's many, many, many paradoxes in this reality of ours..so it kinda makes sense. In ignorance humanity will repeat the same things over and over..fate taking the road of last resistance. But through knowledge..they hve the opportunity NOT to repeat history. Their past.

Unfortunately, ignorance tends to be the predominant thing. Through all of our technological advances..ignorance has if anything gotten worse.

It doesn't have to be so for the future. We don;t have to have a Orwellian future at all.

But it's our choices now which will determine what will happen. All of humanity's choices. Which is, frankly, frightening.

I mean..I know our world is nothing like "As the amjority determines", but the fact that there's so much more ignorance than intelligence scares me about the choices that will be made.

Well, neither do I. That isn't to say they aren't trying to do that too though *frowns* I saw something somewhere about not allowing people who were hurting for money to vote.

I'll post the article on my site if I can find it.
